Jamie Vardy’s wife ‘teargassed and caged’ amid violence between England and Russia fans

Jamie Vardy’s wife was among the England fans caught up in the violence during Saturday’s Euro 2016 opener against Russia.

Prior to the game, several England fans required medical attention after violent clashes in the Vieux Port (Old Port) area of Marseille.

The match finished 1-1 at the Stade Velodrome as Eric Dier’s free-kick was cancelled out by Vasili Berezutski’s injury-time equaliser.

But the result was marred after Russia fans appeared to attack England supporters inside the stadium following the full-time whistle.

That has to be up there with the worst experience EVER at an away game! Teargassed for no reason, caged and treated like animals! Shocking!

I witnessed this with my own eyes! I can’t comment on things I didn’t see but what I got caught up in was horrific and uncalled for!

And Rebekah Vardy, who married the Leicester City striker shortly before the tournament, claims she was sprayed with tear gas by police inside the stadium.

“That has to be up there with the worst experience EVER at an away game! Teargassed for no reason, caged and treated like animals! Shocking!” she posted on Twitter.

Mr Morgan…..a fact! They closed the gates so the fans couldn’t get through then tear gassed us! https://t.co/DByD2tuQUL
