Wenger: Arsenal will give everything for a top four finish

The Gunners boss has said that his team is ready to dig deep for a battle in order to secure qualification for the Champions League next season after a difficult campaign

Arsene Wenger insists his Arsenal players will give “absolutely everything” in order to finish in the top four of the Premier League and secure Champions League qualification following their 2-0 victory at Swansea on Saturday.

The Gunners returned to winning ways by beating the Swans at the Liberty Stadium and in doing so put a disappointing European exit to Bayern Munich on Wednesday night behind them.

Despite securing a 2-0 victory at the Allianz Arena in midweek the Londoners were knocked out on away goals, but Wenger believes the victory in Wales shows his side are ready to fight to feature in the elite competition next season.

“It’s a fantastic win – I was very proud of the players,” he told BBC Sport. “It was a difficult game away to Bayern in midweek, [so] then to come here today with that spirit, we have shown we’re up for the battle.

“We know that, as I told you, we are in the battle. I think today we won because we were ready to give absolutely everything.”

The Frenchman was particularly impressed with Ivorian winger Gervinho, who came on in place of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to score Arsenal’s second goal late on. The former Lille player has been limited to just 13 league appearances this season, but a return to form could prove pivotal to the team’s end of season run-in.

“Gervinho scored but this season he’s lost a bit of confidence,” he added. “But he showed today when he came on that he can make an impact.”
