Arsenal are in the driving seat heading into their second-leg tie against Swedish side Östersunds FK in the Europa League round of 32. The Gunners managed a comfortable 3-0 victory in the ‘Winter City’, and will now take Östersunds to the Emirates to see off the draw.
Here’s how Arsenal could lineup on Thursday night:
David Ospina will remain in goal as Arsenal’s ‘keeper for their cup competitions
With one eye on the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City on Sunday, Arsenal could select a heavily rotated starting lineup for Thursday’s second-leg.
Hector Bellerin and Calum Chambers could keep their places for the side which travelled to Sweden. Rob Holding and Sead Kolasinac could come in for Nacho Monreal and Shkodran Mustafi to ensure the pair a fit for Sunday’s cup final.
Not many of Arsenal’s midfield regulars are likely to feature as the Gunners prepare for the EFL Cup final. Some of the young-Gunners may get a chance to shine on Thursday night.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles could start again in the centre of midfield alongside Mohamed Elneny. Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Alex Iwobi were involved in the goals which Arsenal put away in the first-leg and could be handed starts again.
Promising young starlet Reiss Nelson has been getting Arsenal fans excited with some impressive displays in the PL2 division. He came off the bench in the first-leg but could be handed a starting role on Thursday.
With Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang ineligible to feature in the competition, and Alexandre Lacazette sidelined with a knee problem, Danny Welbeck could be selected to start again on the night.
Welbeck missed some big chances in the first-leg and proved fairly ineffective in front of goal. The second-leg could be a good chance to redeem himself. The Englishman has five goals in all competitions this term.
