The Arsenal playmaker joked that Bayern won’t be able to rest their best players in a tight-looking Bundesliga season as the German giants come up against the Gunners again
Mesut Ozil has joked with Bayern Munich star Jerome Boateng after Arsenal were drawn against Bayern Munich in the Champions League for the fourth time in five seasons.
Champions League last 16 draw
The Germany team-mates discussed the draw on Twitter where Ozil promised his compatriot that the game would be closer than previous years as Bayern wouldn’t be able to ‘save’ their best players for the last-16 clash.
Bayern are currently level on points with surprise package RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga this season, while they finished runners-up in their Champions League group after defeats to Atletico Madrid and FC Rostov.
Arsene Wenger’s team have failed to progress past the last-16 for the last six seasons and, in three previous knockout ties against Bayern, they have come up short each time.
However, Ozil is confident that things will be different this time round as his light-hearted exchange with Boateng shows below…
’The Champions League is fixed’
MÖ: Ok, once again“
JB: Mesut Abiiii, same procedure as every year
MÖ: Now it’s up to us, Bro
JB: Didn’t you say that already last time?
MÖ: New year, new luck (chances). This time you don’t have ten points advance in the Bundesliga and safe yourself“
@MesutOzil1088 Mesut Abiiii … jedes Jahr das gleiche #MiaSanMia #UCLDraw #FCBARS
