The Brazilian defender has spoken of his desire to move to England in the past but says his future remains in the hands of his agent
Villarreal defender Gabriel Paulista says he will not allow himself to become distracted by the prospect of a move to Arsenal.
The 24-year-old centre-back has established himself as a vital part of the Yellow Submarine’s backline during an impressive unbeaten run which has moved them firmly back into the race for the Champions League places.
Arsenal have been credited with an interest in Gabriel, with Villarreal reportedly keen on bringing Joel Campbell to El Madrigal in return after head coach Marcelino admitted he was eager to improve their options in wide areas.
Gabriel has said in the past it would be “a dream” for him to play in the Premier League, but the former Vitoria man says he will not lose focus on his side’s Liga campaign as speculation intensifies.
“Whether I go to Arsenal or stay at Villarreal, I won’t lose my head,” Gabriel was quoted as saying by The Guardian. “I’m very calm. My head is at Villarreal and I’m very focused. My agent is working on making sure I continue being calm.”
Villarreal recorded a 2-0 win over Athletic Bilbao on Saturday and are currently four points behind fourth-placed Sevilla.
