The World Cup winner – who is set to be named the Gunners’s new captain following Mikel Arteta’s departure – will miss the start of the Premier League season with a knee injury
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed central defender Per Mertesacker will be missing for “a few months” after suffering a knee injury.
The former Germany international missed the Gunner’s pre-season trip to the USA, and his manager has now confirmed he will be absent for the opening weeks of the Premier League campaign.
