Arsenal were held to a 0-0 draw against Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night to miss out on the chance to move to the top of the Premier League.
Robin van Persie, returning to his old stomping ground, was presented with a glorious opportunity to open the scoring early on but fired straight at Wojciech Szczesny, the only chance of a lacklustre first half.
The hosts showed more intensity after the restart, with Patrice Evra forced to clear a bullet header from Laurent Koscielny off the line.
Szczesny was later called into action to make a stunning save to deny Van Persie for a second time, tipping the Dutchman’s point-blank header onto the crossbar, before David De Gea equalled his counterpart with a diving save to thwart Santi Cazorla late on.
