Unai Emery Confirms Mesut Ozil Will Play Full Part in Arsenal’s Pre-Season Singapore Tour

Germany midfielder Mesut Ozil will be travelling to Singapore with Arsenal for their pre-season tour despite featuring for Die Mannschaft in the World Cup.

The former Real Madrid playmaker endured a tournament to forget as the 2014 winners crashed out at the soonest and he’s still the subject of political controversy.

Ozil remains on holiday and hasn’t yet returned to the Gunners for pre-season affairs, but new boss Unai Emery has confirmed that the player will be part of the squad for their upcoming tour of Singapore.

Emery oversaw an 8-0 win over Boreham Wood on the weekend and was able to get a good look at new signings Sokratis Papastathopoulous and Matteo Guendouzi.

And on Monday, he revealed that World Cup participants Ozil, Mohamed Elneny and Alex Iwobi will all be rejoining the squad and are expected to play a full part in the aforementioned tour.

The Emirates occupants will be flying to Malaysia on July 22, where they will square off against the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Atletico Madrid as part of the International Champions Cup.

“All the players are the same,” Emery said via the Gunners’ official website. “They have the same holidays. I know Iwobi, Elneny and Mesut Ozil. He’s coming with us to Singapore the first day.”

Ozil has been with the London side since 2013, but it was feared that he would leave the club last season along with Alexis Sanchez. He’s since signed a three-year extension, however, and is now Arsenal’s highest earner with £350,000-a-week wages.

Arsenal Continue Aaron Ramsey Contract Talks With Current Deal Set to Expire Next Year

Arsenal remain in contract talks with star midfielder Aaron Ramsey, whose future at the Emirates is in doubt with his current deal set to expire next year.

Sky Sports believe getting Ramsey tied down to a new contract is one of the club’s biggest challenges this summer as they continue to reshape their squad ahead of the 2018/19 season.

Last week, new Gunners manager Unai Emery revealed he wanted to work with Ramsey, who has made 327 career appearances for the north London side, scoring 58 goals and winning three FA Cups.

“I’m very happy with him,” Emery said. “Every day, every training session he is with the ambition I want. He is working with quality. I want to work with him.”

Arsenal are not expected to do much more transfer business after moving early in the market, having already brought in Uruguay midfielder Lucas Torreira, Borussia Dortmund defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos, youngster Matteo Guendouzi and Switzerland veteran Stephan Lichtsteiner.

However, rumours linking the club with Sevilla and France midfielder Steven Nzonzi persist and they could make an effort to sign the 29-year-old this summer, despite completing the majority of their business already.

The Gunners have also lost Jack Wilshere to West Ham after failing to agree a new contract with the England midfielder. The 26-year-old made 197 appearances in ten seasons at the Emirates, being regularly bogged down by persistent injuries.

Arsenal played their first match of pre-season on Saturday, beating Boreham Wood 8-0 thanks to a hat-trick from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and further strikes from Reiss Nelson, Alexandre Lacazette, Eddie Nketiah, Jeff Reine-Adelaide and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Thierry Henry Announces Decision to Quit Sky Sports to Find Managerial Role

Former Arsenal and Barcelona striker Thierry Henry has announced that he will be vacating his role as a Sky Sports pundit in order to focus his full attention on coaching.

The Frenchman is also the assistant coach for the Belgium national side and works under Roberto Martinez. Having helped the Red Devils achieve a third place finish in this year’s World Cup, Henry has seemingly found extra motivation in playing such an active role in a huge tournament and is now aiming to concentrate on working as a football coach.

Over the last 4 years I have had some extremely rewarding coaching experiences in football. These experiences have only made me more determined to fulfil my long term ambition to become a football manager,” the French legend tweeted on Monday.

“It is with sadness, therefore, that I have decided that I must leave Sky Sports to enable me to spend more time on the pitch and concentrate on my journey to achieving that goal.

“I would like to thank everyone at Sky for making me feel so welcome and at ease throughout my time with them and I wish them all the best for the future. Great memories.”

Henry has been a member of the Belgium setup since 2016. He leaves Sky after three years of delivering expert analysis, having taken up his role there a year prior to joining Martinez’s coaching staff.

Arsenal & Barcelona Set for Transfer Tug of War Over World Cup Star Rodrigo Bentancur

Arsenal and Barcelona are reportedly to set to do battle over Uruguayan midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Bentancur joined Juventus last season from Argentinian giants Boca Juniors but struggled to force his way into La Vecchia Signora’s starting XI.

However, the 21-year-old impressed during the World Cup, making La Gazzetta dello Sport’s ‘stars of the tournament’ list and showing the world what he is capable of.

‘El Maestro’ Oscar Tabarez relied on Bentancur to lead his midfield, and the young player duly obliged, with one of the highlights of his tournament being the perfect pass to set up Edinson Cavani for La Celeste’s second goal against Portugal.

Arsenal have already signed Bentancur’s Uruguay team mate Lucas Torreira from Serie A side Sampdoria, strengthening the squad’s creativity and solidity in the middle of the pitch. Bentancur could also represent an excellent and reliable addition to the Gunners’ midfield.

After veteran Andres Iniesta and Paulinho’s departures, Barcelona are also on the hunt for a new promising midfielder. Bentancur is an option that the Blaugrana are taking into strong consideration, who could perhaps become the heir of the Spanish legend that is ‘Don Andres’.

The 21-year-old has a contract with the Italian champions that ties him to the Allianz Stadium until 2022. Despite the expensive signing of Cristiano Ronaldo to Turin, Juventus are not necessarily willing to sell the Uruguay international.

Multi-Billionaire Fan Claims He Will ‘Definitely’ Try to Buy Arsenal Football Club

Owning a football club is a dream for many fans, and it appears as though one Arsenal fan is planning on making a substantial offer in order to make his dream a reality.

The report comes from the Financial Times, who claim that Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest man, is set to lodge a huge offer with the club. Dangote is valued by Forbes at around $14.1bn, meaning he may well have what it takes to convince Arsenal’s current majority shareholder, Stan Kroenke, to part ways with the club.

The Nigerian businessman values the club at around $2bn, which is similar to the valuation of the club by Forbes in 2016, who listed the Gunners at $2.017bn.

He has made no secret of his passion towards Arsenal, and plans to buy the club to reward himself for completing a huge oil refinery near Lagos. He told the Financial Times: “I love Arsenal and I will definitely go for it.”

He also insisted that he would like to be actively involved in the transfer dealings of the club, should he manage to buy the team. “When I buy it, I have to bring it up to the expectations of our supporters,” he said, whilst also suggesting he would be ‘chipping in [his] own advice’ when it comes to potential transfers.

Kroenke has shown no intention of selling Arsenal, or even entertaining any offers for the club. Whilst Forbes estimated that Dangote’s wealth eclipses that of Kroenke by around $4bn, Kroenke does not need to sell the club to maintain his wealth, despite being in line to make a significant profit on his initial investment.

This is not the first time that Dangote has hinted at buying Arsenal, and Nigerian newspaper Pulse believe that Dangote is not serious about buying the team, instead simply wanting the publicity.

They quote Dangote as having previously said: “The issue is that if I buy all the Nigerian clubs, the Nigerian flags will continue to remain here. Buying Arsenal will take the Nigerian flag worldwide.

“Just like whenever (Chelsea owner) Roman Abramovich is mentioned, the name of his country comes up. Everyone knows he’s Russian.”

Pulse believe that this is proof that Dangote is not truly interested in owning a football team but, with an estimated $14.1bn at his disposal, Dangote certainly has all the tools to make a serious offer.
