3 Key Battles That Could Decide Arsenal’s Clash With Chelsea on Wednesday

Chelsea travel to Arsenal on Wednesday looking for three points to propel them back into second place, and keep their festive period momentum going into the New Year.

With both sides possessing world-class talents in their squad, there are several tantalising matchups in all areas of the pitch.

Here are three key battles which could decide the midweek London derby:

3. Victor Moses vs Alexis Sanchez

Despite not being at his stupendous best this season, Alexis Sanchez still poses a large threat to any defence he comes up against, and Victor Moses will have his work cut out trying to contain the diminutive Chilean.

Sanchez himself will have defensive work to do, with the Nigerian always moving up and down the right flank. Should Arsenal’s number seven shirk his responsibility in his own half, Sead Kolasinac and the back three could find themselves fatally exposed.

2. N’Golo Kante vs Jack Wilshere

With the Englishman enjoying his longest run in the side for almost five years, Wilshere will be desperate to put in a good performance and cement his place in the first team for the second half of the season.

He will have to get past the wall that is N’Golo Kante, with the Frenchman continuing the type of form that won him the PFA Player of the Year last season. Arsenal’s playmaker will have a tough task trying to provide good service to Lacazette, Sanchez and co.

1. Eden Hazard vs Hector Bellerin

The battle between Eden Hazard and Hector Bellerin promises to be game-defining, with one of the fastest players in the Premier League going up against one of the trickiest.

The Belgian will have to be at his very best to get away from Arsenal’s resident speedster, with the two having various frenetic showdowns in the past. Likewise, the Spaniard will need to curtail his attacking ambitions to an extent and focus on containing one of the league’s most potent attacking threats.
