The Arsenal man put his competitive urges to one side to compliment fellow Gunner Olivier Giroud who he could yet face off against in an all-European quarter-final
Mesut Ozil was impressed by France in their 5-2 win over Switzerland, in particular the performance of a certain Premier League target man leading the line for Didier Deschamps side.
Perhaps the German playmaker forgot that Giroud and his countrymen could be his nation’s main rivals for a spot in the last four should both countries finish top of their groups and proceed through to the quarter-finals. Arsenal fans may find plenty to enjoy in the online love-in, but supporters of die Mannschaft could be forgiven for wanting more of a frosty stand off stance from their North London-based midfield string puller.
Besides Ozil’s one-man Giroud apprectiation society effort, Mario Balotelli was up to his old tricks again online, demanding a kiss from Elizabeth II in exchange for goals against Costa Rica and Uruguay. For the sake of pomp and circumstance however, he failed to find the net against the former. Had her royal highness been watching the action, one would imagine that she would not have been amused.
The Queen is unlikely to be interested in honouring Luis Suarez anytime soon either, after the Uruguayan sent England on their way to World Cup oblivion. Colombia did the exact opposite, securing their passage to the second round, offering some fitting reactions in 140 character form.
As shown by the tweets of the Australian team however, resting and recuperating by the pool, it would seem that there are other ways of enjoying the experience of Brazil 2014 without making it into the knock out stages.
