After a panic-stricken summer in which Arsene Wenger invested heavily but not wisely, Arsenal must use the January transfer window intelligently to arrest their recent slide and keep the club competing for a top-four spot.
The Gunners are expected to make a move for Atletico Madrid striker Adrian and Crystal Palace’s wonderkid Wilfried Zaha in the winter window as the Arsenal board hand Wenger a war chest of at least £40 million (€49m).
But that may not even be enough to avert the crisis the Gunners find themselves in following the club’s poorest start to a Premier League campaign during Wenger’s 16-year tenure. The 63-year-old is facing his toughest spell as the manager of the Emirates Stadium outfit, with questions being posed over his leadership and indeed his eye for talent.
