Arsenal edged through to the FA Cup final on penalties against Wigan as Santi Cazorla sent home the winning spot-kick following a 1-1 draw after extra-time.
Jordi Gomez gave the Latics a shock lead from the penalty spot on 63 minutes after Callum McManaman’s strong run was brought to an abrupt halt by Per Mertesacker.
A desperate Arsenal then poured forward and after Bacary Sagna and Kieran Gibbs had both come close to an equaliser, Mertesacker popped up at the back post to head them level.
After neither side could find a break-through during extra-time, the game went to penalties where Santi Cazorla scored the winning spot-kick to send Arsene Wenger’s side through to the final.
