The Poland international has released a statement apologising for his father’s recent comments, in which he blamed the Gunners boss for his son’s downturn in form

Arsenal’s Wojciech Szczesny has apologised for the comments made by his father, in which he blamed Arsene Wenger for the goalkeeper’s slump in form.

The 22-year-old has recenly lost his place in the Gunners’ starting XI due to what Wenger described as ‘mental fatigue’, prompting the player’s father to complain to a Polish newspaper over the manager’s treatment of his son.

The Poland international has now issued a statement on the official Arsenal website distancing himself from his father comments, stating: “I would like to apologise for the comments made by my father which have been used by both Polish and English media.

“I’d like to make it clear that those were the views and opinions of my father and not mine, and although I respect his views I cannot accept them as I find them disrespectful to the club I truly love.

“I have been at Arsenal Football Club for seven years now and I have always shown my full respect to the Club, Arsène Wenger, all the coaching staff, my team-mates and the fans.

“I’ve always felt that I received great support from the manager and the fans and I am fully focused on getting back to my best.

“I am proud to be a part of Arsenal and I see my future at this great club.”

Fellow countryman Lukas Fabianski replaced Szczesny in goal for Arsenal’s 2-0 Champions League win over Bayern Munich, and kept his place in the for Saturday’s Premier League trip to Swansea City.
