Three Blues defenders make the Team of the Week, while two Englishmen lead the line after both hit the back of the net during the weekend’s round of fixtures

The Premier League took another dramatic turn at both ends of the table this weekend as Chelsea breathed new life into the title race and Sunderland edged towards safety.

Leaders Liverpool saw their title hopes dented with defeat to Chelsea, while victory for Manchester City leaves them just six points off top spot, with two games in hand and a better goal difference.

But it’s at Old Trafford where Goal’s Team of the Week starts and where, despite conceding four goals to Ryan Giggs’ Manchester United, Norwich City’s John Ruddy (4) gets the nod as our goalkeeper with the Englishman keeping the score down with a number of fine saves.

A brilliant defensive display ensures Chelsea dominate our back four with Cesar Azpilicueta (4.5) and Ashley Cole (4) taking both full-back slots.

Branislav Ivanovic (4) makes it a hat-trick of Chelsea defenders and he is partnered at the back by Younes Kaboul (4), who starred as Tottenham beat Stoke 1-0 at the Britannia Stadium

Into midfield and Aaron Ramsey (4.5) takes his place in our side after helping inspire Arsenal to a 3-0 defeat of Newcastle, as the Gunners tighten their grip on fourth spot.

Joining the Welshman in the centre of midfield is Swansea star Jonjo Shelvey (4.5). His stunning goal from the halfway line and two assists against Aston Villa see him pip two-goal Juan Mata and West Brom’s Stephane Sessegnon to a spot in our side.

Out wide and Southampton’s Steven Davis (4) features on the right after putting in one of his performances of the season against Everton. He may have missed a glorious chance, but Davies played a key role in a result that could cost Everton a Champions League spot.

On the opposite side Shinji Kagawa (4) gave Manchester United fans plenty to smile about, cutting in from the left and creating plenty of chances as the Red Devils cruised to victory in Giggs’ first game in charge.

Up front and Connor Wickham (4.5) continued his fine form, scoring his fourth goal in three games to open the scoring against Cardiff before winning the penalty for Sunderland’s second and finishing the scoring in a 4-0 win that lifts the Black Cats out of the drop zone

Completing our line-up is Wayne Rooney (4.5) who scored two in a commanding display against Norwich as United began life without axed boss David Moyes in fine style.
