The Germany international says the Gunners must deal with the 6-0 humiliation and has urged his side to improve on their poor showing in Arsene Wenger’s 1000th game in charge

Arsenal striker Lukas Podolski says the Gunners are very disappointed by their 6-0 defeat to Chelsea but has urged his side not to let it destroy their season.

Jose Mourinho’s men cruised to an emphatic victory over Arsenal at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, a victory that lifts them seven points clear of Arsene Wenger’s side.

However, Podolski says his team must put the defeat behind them and focus on ther upcoming games, with the Gunners next in action against Swansea on Tuesday.

“It’s hard to describe [what happened against Chelsea],” he told the German national side’s official site.

“We are all very disappointed. Chelsea showed the right attitude and from the first second, how much they wanted it. They were present from the beginning and left us no chance.

“But it is clear that such a thing really should not happen. You can lose a game against Chelsea, but not 6-0. For us, it can now only be about quickly working off this game, check it off and focus on the next tasks.”

Despite the heavy defeat Podolski insists his side still remain in the title hunt and has urged his side to improve on Saturday’s dismal display.

“The Premier League is the best league in the world for me. The competition is insanely tight, five, six teams play at the top,” he added.

“That’s why it was always clear to me that there will be no team that is over the entire season out on their own.

“For first place it is brutally tight, and yet we still in touch. We need to continue to play better than we did against Chelsea.

“Above all, we must continue to believe in our strengths. Chelsea was a setback – but we must not now let them destroy us with talk.”
