Lyon star Grenier flattered by Arsenal interest

The 22-year-old midfielder is wanted by Gunners boss Arsene Wenger but reiterated what he said in June when he stated no decision had been made on his next destination

Lyon midfielder Clement Grenier admits he is flattered by Arsenal’s interest in him as he prepares to hold talks with the French club over his future.

The 22-year-old previously revealed in late May he had already made a decision regarding where he would be playing his football in the 2013-14 season before backtracking on those comments in June.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is keen to bring Grenier to the Emirates Stadium this summer but the highly-rated France international, who has just a year left on his contract at the Stade de Gerland, says he will sit down with his current club to fully resolve the matter.

“I know Lyon have refused an offer from Arsenal,” he told Le Parisien. “Of course it’s flattering that clubs are interested in me.”

In an interview with RTL, he added: “Today, I can’t honestly give an answer [on my future], because my future is not decided.

“I have a meeting very soon with the president, the coach and my representatives, to discuss a little bit of everything.

“But today I have problems talking about my future because nothing is decided. I prefer to wait to be 100 per cent sure about what is going to happen.”
