Galatasaray don't need 'luxury' Podolski – Aysal

Reports this week suggest that the Gunners are willing to sell the Germany international but the Super Lig side have no interest in the versatile attacker

Galatasaray will not be making a bid for Arsenal striker Lukas Podolski, the Turkish giants’ president has confirmed.

Reports this week had suggested the Gunners were willing to sell the Germany international, who has failed to establish himself as a first-team regular since arriving at the Emirates Stadium in the summer of 2012.

But while Galatasaray chief Unal Aysal admited he held talks with his manager Cesare Prandelli about Podolski, he revealed the Italian had urged him not to make a move for the 29-year-old.

“I asked Cesare Prandelli if we should target Lukas Podolski,” Aysal said. “Prandelli told us that Podolski would be a luxury transfer and that he isn’t required.”As a result we didn’t pursue the matter further.”

Aysal suggested that Galatasaray would be significantly more interested in signing Joel Campbell, but he insisted any move is unlikely because of Arsenal’s unwillingness to countenance offers for the youngster.

“Joel Campbell is an excellent, young, promising player,” he added. “However, Arsenal have not transfer listed him and won’t let him leave so there is nothing we can do.

“We will be making transfers before the end of the transfer window and strengthening the squad. We have areas we need to strengthen going into the new season.”
