Draxler: I will stay at Schalke

The Germany international was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal last winter, but has voiced his desire to stay at his current club for now

Julian Draxler has made it clear that he aims to stay at Schalke for at least one more season.

The Germany international appeared to be on his way to Arsenal last winter, but the move eventually fell through as both sides failed to reach an agreement about a transfer fee.

Draxler remains one of the most sought after youngsters around in Europe, but he has stressed that his foreseeable future lies in Gelsenkirchen.

“I have no absolutely no intention of leaving Schalke this summer,” Draxler told Bild.

“I have no doubts that there will be plenty of speculation this summer, but it is very likely that I will play for Schalke again next season.”

Draxler has endured a difficult 2013-14 campaign, scoring just twice in 26 Bundesliga appearances.

He has a contract with Schalke until June 2018.
