It’s Christmas so I’m hoping I can fund some of the festive celebrations that will inevitably ensue with a Totel Football win. The Premier League fantasy football game is ideal for all the football coming up, it’s a good opportunity to be in with a chance of a sizable prize pool for a small stake.

Goalkeeper

Joe Hart

I like Reading, I really do. But there’s a difference between an attacking approach to the game and simply choosing not to put any onus on defence, and Brian McDermott’s side are on the Championship side of that line. The Royal’s haven’t scored in three away games so Joe Hart gets the nod between the sticks.

Defender

Glen Johnson

Liverpool will be looking to put “that” Aston Villa performance behind them when they host Fulham, who have only scored once in their last three on the road. If there’s a chance for the Reds to keep a clean sheet in the festive calendar then this is right up there. Johnson offers enough going forward to be included.

Jan Vertonghen

Stoke don’t score a huge amount of goals and Jan Vertonghen has shown his goal-scoring ability of late for Spurs. Those two factors combined make the Belgium international a great inclusion in this type of game.

Sebastien Bassong

Norwich have proved very difficult to break down in recent weeks after a dire start to the Premier League season. Bassong has got five clean sheets to his name and three goals so far.

This Saturday the Canaries face a West Brom side looking very different to that which impressed so many in the early going and could find it tough to break down Chris Hughton’s men.

Jose Fonte

Southampton have tightened up their defence in recent weeks and a clash against Sunderland could be a very cagey, tight affair, so having Jose Fonte in the team looks a good option. He’s got two goals already and hopefully this isn’t a goal-filled affair.

Midfield

Santi Cazorla

The Arsenal midfield maestro was absolutely sublime against Reading and a trip to Wigan could see him rack up more points, he hit a mammoth 33 points in his last game and hopefully he can continue to pull the strings in the middle of the park for the Gunners.

Yaya Toure

Four goals, two assists and just two cards mean Yaya Toure is a consistent points scorer in this game. Manchester City could be in for an absolute field day when they welcome a Reading team incapable of any significant resistance and Toure could benefit from that fragile back line.

Kevin Nolan

Although the goals have dried up for Kevin Nolan in recent weeks the lack of Mauroune Fellaini in the Everton midfield means he could get more freedom at Upton Park this weekend.

If he can exploit the fact that the influential Belgium international is missing from the Toffees’ line up it could be another high scoring week.

Juan Mata

When he’s on song, Juan Mata is very difficult to stop in the Chelsea midfield. Six goals and six assists with only one booking means he averages just under eight points per game and he’s more than capable of getting more than that against Aston Villa.

Demba Ba

10 Premier League goals and a very winnable game against QPR means Demba Ba is worth including this weekend.

He’s been in fine form in the first half of the season and I’m sure Alan Pardew will see this as a good opportunity for the Magpies to stop the rot that’s seen them lose four of their last five league games.

Luis Suarez

The Liverpool frontman is another one of the few strikers to make it into double figures so far, and against a Fulham side who’ve kept one clean sheet all season, he should get plenty of chances to improve on that.

With no Fabio Borini, Brendan Rodgers doesn’t have many other options, so Suarez should get plenty of time on the pitch on Saturday evening.

Jim’s starting XI

Joe Hart, Jan Vertonghen, Jose Fonte, Glen Johnson, Sebastien Bassong, Santi Cazorla, Yaya Toure, Kevin Nolan, Juan Mata, Demba Ba, Luis Suarez

Substitutes

David De Gea (Manchester United), Robert Huth (Stoke), Michu (Stoke), Christian Benteke (Aston Villa)
