Cazorla ruled out of Liverpool clash with illness

The Spaniard played 90 minutes in Wednesday’s goalless draw with Manchester United but is not fit enough to face the Reds, while Mathieu Flamini returns from suspension

Santi Cazorla has been ruled out of Arsenal’s FA Cup fifth-round tie against Liverpool on Sunday due to illness.
Cazorla played 90 minutes in the Gunners’ goalless draw with Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday evening, but is not considered fit enough to face the Reds.

Aaron Ramsey also remains sidelined with injury, but Wenger confirmed that Mathieu Flamini will return to the side after serving a three-match suspension.

“We have only one player back and that’s Flamini. He should be fresh. Cazorla is ill in bed, he won’t be available,” the Gunners boss said at Friday’s press conference.

Arsenal face Bayern Munich in the first leg of their Champions League knockout tie next Wednesday, but Wenger insists whatever team he selects will be determined to overcome Liverpool.

“Will I rest one, two or three players? I don’t know yet,” he admitted. “We have one focus – to win this game.”
