Arsenal co-owner Usmanov named Britain's richest man

The Russian businessman, who has a near-30 per cent stake in the Gunners, advances ahead of QPR investor Lakshmi Mittal and Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich to top the list

Arsenal co-owner Alisher Usmanov has been named as the wealthiest man in Britain by The Sunday Times’s annual Rich List.
The Russian business magnate, who owns nearly 30 per cent of the north London club, replaces QPR stakeholder Lakshmi Mittal at the top of the list, now in its 25th year.

Usmanov has had a stake in the Gunners since 2007 and has repeatedly criticised the team’s ambition, particularly under majority shareholder Stan Kroenke.

His total wealth is measured at €15.5 billion, with his business interests ranging from iron ore to internet and mobile phone companies.

Mittal, who was part of the group who took control of QPR in 2007, dropped down to fourth after eight consecutive years at the top of the rankings, though is still worth €11.7bn.

One place behind him is Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich, whose personal riches are listed as a total of €10.9bn.
