Former Man Utd Striker Robin van Persie Rejoins Boyhood Club Feyenoord After Stint in Turkey

Robin van Persie has rejoined his former club Feyenoord after two and a half seasons at Turkish side Fenerbahce.

The Netherlands striker has played just two league games this season after suffering a knee injury in an international friendly loss to France back in September.

Van Persie started his career at Feyenoord, who confirmed the transfer via Twitter, joining the club in 1999 and making his debut in 2001, going on to score 22 goals in 78 appearances before joining Arsenal.

Feyenoord are Eredivisie’s current champions but face a tough task in retaining their title this season, with Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side 14 points behind current leaders PSV Eindhoven.

Van Persie spent the majority of his career with Arsenal, scoring 132 goals in 278 games before leaving north London for Manchester United, winning the Premier League title in his first season with the Red Devils.

Jesse Lingard Jokes About Alexis Sanchez’s Arrival at Man Utd in Hilarious Instagram Takeover

Jesse Lingard took to Instagram to upload a video of himself pretending to welcome Alexis Sanchez in for his medical as the Chileans move to United looks imminent.

The Alexis Sanchez transfer saga has been going on for the majority of the January window and a move to Manchester looks to be finally on the cards. Sky Sports reported that Henrikh Mkhitaryan – who is set to replace the Chile international at Arsenal – turned up at his current club’s training base, while his representatives are in London as negotiations continue between the two clubs.

However, amid all the transfer drama, Man Utd attacker Lingard took the opportunity to tease all Man Utd fans on the club’s Instagram story by joking that Sanchez was undergoing a medical at Carrington.

Lingard – who is in perhaps the best form of his career so far – uploaded a video on Instagram in which he said: “Oh hello, welcome are you OK? How are you? I hope you enjoy your time here, enjoy your medical, bye, bye.”

However, he did caption the video ‘only joking’ to the club’s millions of followers.

Chelsea v Arsenal - Carabao Cup Semi-Final: First Leg

The 29-year-old has snubbed the Gunners’ contract offers with just six months left on his deal, forcing them to sell him for £35m to their rivals.

Arsene Wenger has admitted that a move from the north London club to Manchester is more than likely and Sanchez rejected the maximum the club could afford, according to the Daily Mail.

Wenger said: “We did the maximum we could afford to do (with Sanchez’s contract offer).

It is likely to happen but any minute things can break down. As long as it’s not over the line you can accept it might not happen.”

Pep Guardiola ‘Congratulates’ Rivals on Alexis Sanchez Deal as Man City Boss Concedes Defeat

Pep Guardiola has applauded Manchester United for beating Manchester City to the punch in the race to sign Arsenal contract rebel Alexis Sanchez.

The Spaniard was quoted by Sky Sports as he commented on United’s swap deal for the Chilean involving Henrikh Mkhitaryan, admitting that the Chilean has the right to decide his own future.

City were thought to be favourites to land Sanchez but pulled out of negotiations over his transfer due to Arsenal’s monetary demands.

And Guardiola now wants everyone associated with City to move on as he wished both United and Sanchez luck in their new working relationship.

He said: “I am not the guy with the mathematics, the numbers. What I know right now is Alexis is still an Arsenal player. I think he is going to go to United so congratulations to both of them. In the end, the players and managers decide where they want to play. Good luck.”

Pressed further on the issue by the assembled press, Guardiola explained why he did not feel let down by the player he had managed at Barcelona before Sanchez left to move to north London.

He continued: “My opinion of Alexis remains the same. It was a pleasure to be with him at Barcelona and he is going to decide to move onto another club. I wish him all the best.”

City face an injury crisis at left-back with Fabian Delph joining Benjamin Mendy on the sidelines after he limped off in last Sunday’s 4-3 loss to Liverpool.

Guardiola admitted it may be difficult to find a suitable replacement for the duo, but added that he would have to make do with whoever was available to him in that position.

He said: “We have a problem [at left-back] for the next few weeks. We have had a problem since the start of the season because we decided to start the season with just one full-back. We hadn’t options to buy because we spent enough money.

“We knew that and now the problem with Fabian Delph, we are going to see how we solve the problem, because it is not for just one or two games. It will be for longer.

“In this kind of situation, it depends on the mentality of the players. If they are able to make a step forward and some players play in not natural positions, and other guys help them, everything is going well.”

German Report Claims Arsenal Target’s Exit Is ‘Probably Imminent’ After Omission From Matchday Squad

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s potential move from Borussia Dortmund has been labeled ‘probably imminent’ by German publication Bild, as speculation continues to build over a potential move to Arsenal.

The striker was suspended from the team’s last match after missing a meeting, and it was said that he would return to the squad for their next fixture. However, Bild now report that he did not travel with the rest of the squad to face Hertha Berlin, with a match set for Friday evening.

As a result, the German outlet reckon that an exit is very likely to happen, with the Gunners believed to be the destination. Boss Arsene Wenger did not shy away from answering questions posed in relation to the potential €60m signing in a recent press conference.

Asked if the Gabonese speedster would be a good fit for his side, Wenger responded by saying: “Yes, because character can be very positive and very negative.

Overall you look at the achievement of a player over their career and usually his character has been used in a positive way.”

Aubameyang himself is reportedly happy to move to Arsenal, according to Gianluca Di Marzio, who claims that a three-year deal and €10m-a-season wages have already been agreed.

Wenger is also hoping to sign Armenian playmaker Henrikh Mkhitaryan from Manchester United, with Alexis Sanchez poised to go the other way.

The former Udinese and Barcelona attacker was thought to be Manchester City-bound, before the Etihad side walked away from the table, leaving United clear to swoop in.

Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc, meanwhile, denied having made contact with Arsenal over Aubameyang, and has branded Wenger ‘disrespectful’ for the comments noted above.

“We regard it as disrespectful that Arsene Wenger expresses himself about players of other clubs,” he said. “There is no contact on our part with Arsenal. Arsene Wenger certainly has enough currently to deal with the performance of his own players.”

Zorc has also dismissed the claims made by Bild, insisting the striker has been training and is not very distracted by the rife reports.

“Aubameyang trained in Dortmund,” he explained. “Currently, we have the impression that he is employed and therefore not fully focused in mind with other things. Consequently, we wonder if he can help us in Berlin.”

There seems to be quite a bot going on with the Aubameyang saga at the moment, but some closure could be had in the coming days.

Dortmund Director Fires Shots at Arsene Wenger Over Publicly Discussing Move for Wantaway Aubameyang

Borussia Dortmund are outraged by Arsene Wenger’s public comments surrounding the reported transfer of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Arsenal, with the German club’s sporting director Michael Zorc encouraging the Gunners boss to focus on the performances of his own players rather than speculate over the future of the striker.

The Gunners are desperately moving to cover the impending departure of star attacker Alexis Sanchez, who is set to make a move to Manchester United, and 28-year-old Aubameyang has handed in a transfer request which has led to those at the Emirates growing increasingly confident that a deal could be struck.

When asked if Arsenal were moving closer to securing a deal for the Gabon international and if his character profile would fit into his side at the Emirates, Wenger said, via the Metro: ‘We are, with this kind of thing, better when it is secret and announce when it’s over the line.

“Yes, because character can be very positive and very negative. Overall you look at the achievement of a player over their career and usually his character has been used in a positive way.”

The comments quickly reached the hierarchy of Dortmund and they were not best pleased, Zorc said: “We find it disrespectful to speak about players of other clubs. There is no contact with Arsenal.

“We assumed that Arsene Wenger has enough on his mind to take care of the performances of his own players.”

The damning statement does nothing to clear up the future of Aubameyang, but Dortmund manager Peter Stoger insisted he will continue to see the 28-year-old as part of his plans until he is told otherwise.

Stoger said: “[Aubameyang] wasn’t an issue for us these last few days. We had a good, short talk on Monday. If nothing changes he’s an option for tomorrow [against Hertha Berlin].

“I told Aubameyang what I want to see from him, that he gives it all in training. At the end it’s up to him to qualify for the team and do what’s necessary to be a part of it. Until I hear there’s a personnel change he’s part of my plans.

“I feel like the guys are happy if Aubameyang’s here and works hard because he’s obviously got a lot of quality. It’s a lot more calm within these walls than it might appear to some on the outside.”
