Arsenal & Manchester City Set to Clash Over Teenage Fulham Wonderkid Matt O’Riley

Arsenal and Manchester City are reportedly set for a collision course, with both clubs said to be interested in signing Fulham wonderkid Matt O’Riley at the soonest opportunity.

The youngster hasn’t seen his 17th birthday as yet, but has already made two appearances in the Carabao Cup for the Cottagers this season, as well as in the Checkatrade trophy.

O’Riley was summoned to Fulham’s senior side after his stellar performances for the club’s youth teams, and the Mirror report that he has now caught the attention of two of the Premier League’s biggest sides.

He has also been called up to the England Under-17 side as a result of his displays, and will represent his country in next month’s Under-17 World Cup tournament in India.

The 16-year-old has been impressing just about everyone who has watched him play with his passing and technical ability, and Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic is hoping to have him around for the future.

“This player is in the process – he’s very talented player and he makes his job good enough for his age,” the manager said earlier this month. “In general, the games were one of the first challenges for him in senior football, he played good against Wycombe and he moved and try to offer the quality against Bristol too.

“It’s early and his first steps, but I used a lot of young players in these games and what I said before, they’re in the process of learning and I expect he can be an important player for our club in the future.”

Arsenal Offered Chance to Finally Sign Long-Term Target Karim Benzema in £44m Deal

According to reports in Spain, Arsenal are set to be offered the opportunity to bring Real Madrid and France striking starlet Karim Benzema to north London.

There have been frequent whispers over the past three or four transfer windows of Arsenal attempting to sanction a move for the 29-year old, but these rumours have persistently failed to come into fruition.

However, according to notorious Spanish rumourmongers Don Balon (via the Daily Star), that could be about to change.

Perez is in search of a new-look frontline for Real.

Real Madrid are considering allowing Benzema to leave Los Blancos – whom he has represented since 2009 – for a fee expected to be in the region of £44m, with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez reportedly wanting to cash in on the attacker to fund a shake-up of the club’s attacking line.

Benzema has bagged 127 goals in 247 appearances for Real, and would be a welcomed addition to Arsenal’s side, providing a much-needed winning mentality in the Gunners’ long quest for the Premier League title. However, this deal doesn’t come without its cons for the north Londoners.

Despite formerly representing Barcelona, Real have supposedly identified Arsenal talisman Alexis Sanchez as an ‘ideal replacement’ for Benzema. The Chilean has entered the final 12 months of his current contract, with the Gunners running the risk of losing their prized asset on a free transfer in the next summer transfer window.

Benzema could lead a new-look frontline with French compatriot and former Lyon striker, Alexandre Lacazette, who has enjoyed an impressive start to his Arsenal career following his club-record £52m move, scoring two goals in his first five appearances.

Arsenal Defender Hector Bellerin Posts Hilarious Tweet Following Jack Wilshere’s Comeback

Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin welcomed teammate Jack Wilshere back to the starting XI with a Twitter post regarding the Spaniard’s nighttime activities.

The England international was named in the Gunners’ opening line-up for the first time since May 2016 during the north Londeners’ 1-0 Carabao Cup win over League One side Doncaster Rovers after returning from a year-long loan spell at Bournemouth.

Wednesday night’s victory was the first time the 25-year-old, who is now within the final 12 months of his contract at the Emirates Stadium, had lasted a full 90 minutes since September 2014, following his continuous plague of injuries.

It seems, however, that it was not just the Arsenal faithful who were glad to see the midfielder return to starting action, with right-back Bellerin responding to Arsenal chief photographer Stuart MacFarlane’s tweet stating he will be have Wilshere close to him while he sleeps.

The Stevenage-born ball-winner certainly showed Arsene Wenger what he had been missing during the Gunners’ safe passage through to the Carabao Cup fourth round, and may well have given the French manager a selection headache ahead of the north Londeners’ Premier League clash with West Bromwich Albion on Monday.

Carabao Cup Roundup: Arsenal, Chelsea, City & United All Secure Their Passage Through to Round 4

Five of the six Premier League sides in action tonight secured their progress into round four of the Carabao Cup as Arsenal, Chelsea, Everton and both Manchester clubs comfortably won their ties.

Manchester United ran riot over Championship side Burton Albion as Mourinho’s men secured a 4-0 win at Old Trafford. Marcus Rashford bagged himself two goals within the first 20 minutes of the tie, before Jesse Lingard’s deflected effort beat Ripley in the Burton goal to put United in a comfortable position.

Anthony Martial added to the scoreline on the hour mark to relieve any doubt of who was progressing, although in stoppage time Burton were able to do something no side have done this season, score at Old Trafford. It was nothing more than a consolation goal for Lloyd Dyer, however it gave the Burton fans something to cheer about on a night United cruised through.

Chelsea’s progression never looked in doubt during their 5-1 win over Nottingham Forest. Although the hosts made a number of changes it was still a very strong starting line up, and the Blues’ fans saw their side head into half-time with a 3-0 lead thanks to goals from Kenedy, Michy Batshuayi and Charly Musonda.

Things only got worse for the visitors as Batshuayi got his second of the game just eight minutes after half-time, and secured his hattrick just four minutes from time as he continues to push his case to Conte for a starting role in his side. Forest grabbed a late consolation through Tendayi Darikwa, however Chelsea still ran out 5-1 winners at Stamford Bridge.

Manchester City won the only all-Premier League clash of the night as they defeated West Brom 2-0 at the Hawthorns. It didn’t take City long to go ahead after Ilkay Gundogan’s parried shot fell to the path of Leroy Sane who dispatched the ball beyond Ben Foster.

Despite controlling the game, City were given a scare as Claudio Yacob equalised for the hosts after 72 minutes. However with the threat of extra-time looming, City showed why they’re joint top of the league with Leroy Sane launching a deadly counter attack which ended in a top corner finish for the German winger, giving City a 2-1 win in round three.

Although Arsenal rested a number of key players, they did just about enough to beat League One outfit Doncaster Rovers at the Emirates. Walcott’s first half goal was all Arsenal needed to secure their passage through to round four as the hosts were never really threatened by the visitors.

Everton headed into the their third round match with Sunderland coming off the back of a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester United, however there was not to be a repeat of that score line.

Two goals from England Under-21 international Dominic Calvert-Lewin either side of half-time put the toffees in control of the tie, with Oumar Niasse late goal giving Everton a 3-0 win.

The draw for the fourth round of the Carabao Cup has been made following the conclusion of the third round on Wednesday night, with the last 16 teams one step closer to the February final where the first major silverware of the season will be handed out.

Spurs only narrowly crept through against Barnsley, while Crystal Palace have at least been able to put their nightmare Premier League campaign to one side in the Carabao Cup this season – they won for the second time against top flight rivals Huddersfield.

Wednesday night’s action saw holders Manchester United breeze past Burton and Chelsea hit five past Nottingham Forest, while Arsenal and Man City also made it into the next round. But each of the teams learned their fate shortly after the full time whistles were blown on Wednesday night – with some excellent ties being thrown up.

Chelsea will host Everton in the pick of the bunch, with Ronald Koeman’s men sealing their progress to the next round on Wednesday night following a 3-0 win over Sunderland. Spurs though will welcome West Ham to Wembley in another huge tie.

City, United and Arsenal were all handed relatively routine draws – with United’s trip to Swansea looking the toughest of the three on paper – while Bristol City might fancy their chances of making the last eight given they’ve drawn an out of form Crystal Palace.
